The graphic novel Disorder sheds light on the life of Ian Curtis, the lead singer in the band Joy Division. Ian Curtis was the lead singer of the band Joy Division inspired by the sex pistols. Known for being the first Gothic band, Ian had an impact on the post punk music scene. After he was diagnosed with epilepsy, Ian’s dance and lyrical writing became a mirror image of his mental struggles. During his rise to fame, he had an affair with a Belgian reporter by the name of Annik Honoré. Over time, Ian’s mental health became so bad he committed suicide right before he was about to go on Joy Division’s American tour. Ian Curtis was extremely influential to music and his death was extremely tragic. The style was created to be edgy and punk rock. This was supposed to represent the time of the music and the tragedy of Ian Curtis’ life. This was executed through rough graphite style drawings throughout the novel.
